Iran’s Intelligence Ministry to Take Preventive Action along Borders
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian intelligence minister said on Wednesday that his ministry has devised plans to take preemptive action against terrorist attacks along the country’s borders, noting that the ministry would certainly respond to any case of insecurity.
Referring to the intelligence ministry’s reaction to the recent events in Iran’s southeastern Saravan and northwestern Baneh cities, Seyed Mahmoud Alawi said, “The intelligence ministry has special plans, which we will implement at the right moment.”
This comes after 14 Iranian border guards lost their lives and six other were wounded in an ambush attack by a terrorist group on a border post near the city of Saravan in southwestern Iran, near the border with Pakistan, on Friday night.
Also, five members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) lost their lives in clashes with the terrorists near the nation's border with Iraq in Baneh on October 9, the worst such violence there in over a year, and two others were wounded.
The Iranian intelligence minister went on to say that it would not be possible to completely eradicate such incidents, but added that necessary measures would be taken to stop a recurrence of the those events.
“The intelligence ministry devises a plan for each case of insecurity,” Alawi explained.
And on Friday, the commander of Beit ul-Muqaddas division of the IRGC, Brigadier General Mohammad Hossein Rajabi, said his forces killed three anti-revolutionary elements and arrested two others near the city of Baneh in Kurdestan province in western Iran.
He said that the successful operation was launched in close cooperation between the provincial intelligence officers and IRGC forces.
The IRGC top commander said that the armed bandits involved in the Friday clashes might be members of a group that clashed with IRGC forces in Baneh on October 9.
