Iran’s Taekwondo Athlete Rajabi Snatches Gold in Asian Games

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Saeid Rajabi from Iran claimed a gold medal in men’s taekwondo +80kg in the 2018 Asian Games underway in Indonesia.

On Tuesday, Rajabi defeated Lee Seung-hwan from South Korea 6-3 in his first match. He beat Chinese Sun Hongyi and Ruslan Zhaparov from Kazakhstan respectively to reach the final match.

Rajabi defeated Uzbekistan’s Dmitriy Shokin 3-2 in the final match and claimed a gold medal.

Iranian freestyle wrestlers have previously won three gold medals in the Games.

Hassan Yazdani (86kg), Alireza Karimi (97kg) and Parviz Hadi (125kg) won three gold medals.

The 2018 Asian Games, officially known as the 18th Asian Games and also known as Jakarta Palembang 2018, is a pan-Asian multi-sport event scheduled to be held from 18 August to 2 September in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.

The athletes compete in 465 events across 40 sports and 67 disciplines.
