TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A criminal probe was opened by Russia's Investigative Committee into torture at a Yaroslavl prison, Friday, after new videos was emerged showing guards beating inmates.

The footage was passed to the Russian Newspaper Novaya Gazeta by the human rights organization Public Verdict Foundation and published on Thursday.

In the first video guards are heard reminding each other to turn off surveillance cameras ahead of beatings. The footage also shows inmates who are ordered to run back and forth in a narrow hallway, while guards punch and kick them.

According to Novaya Gazeta, the beatings may have been filmed around December 2016.

The second clip shows an unknown half-naked prisoner losing consciousness during questioning. In another video an inmate demonstrates his bruises to a doctor.

It is not the first time Yaroslavl prison has been in the spotlight due to torture allegations.

Earlier in the summer, six employees of the facility were accused of torturing prisoner Evgeny Makarov. One of them, the 26-year-old Sergei Drachev, was found guilty and placed in pre-trial custody until September 22.
