Football Federation Negotiating for Holding Iran-Spain Friendly

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A top Spanish football player is coming to Iran this Wednesday for talks with the Iranian Football Federation that could lead to holding a friendly between the Iranian and Spanish national football teams prior to the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

Former national football player of Spain Michelle Salgado will arrive in Tehran on Wednesday, November 6, for holding meetings with Iranian Football Federation and talks on bilateral cooperation, academic activities and, above all, a friendly game between the two countries’ national football teams.

An informed source in the Iranian Football Federation told Tasnim that if the conditions are met, Iran and Spain will play the friendly before the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

While in Tehran, Salgado will attend a scientific football conference, which will also be attended by the FIFA President Sepp Blatter and the AFC Chief Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa.

President of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Sepp Blatter will visit Iran on November 6, head of Iran Football Federation said Saturday, adding that he will also meet President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday.

The FIFA top official will arrive in Tehran at 2 pm, Wednesday, local time to attend a scientific conference on football, and is also scheduled to meet the Iranian football authorities, as well as the country's caretaker (or minister) of the sports and youth ministry.
