Iranian, Russian Diplomats Discuss JCPOA in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Deputy foreign ministers of Iran and Russia held a meeting in Tehran for talks on a wide range of issues regarding the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

In the Monday meeting, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his Russian counterpart Sergey Ryabkov discussed a wide range of issues related to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in its official Twitter page.

The two ranking diplomats have also agreed on further bilateral consultations between Tehran and Moscow, it added.

Russia is a main supporter of the Iran nuclear deal, from which the US has withdrawn unilaterally.

On May 8, US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the JCPOA, which was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Following the US exit, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.
