Zarif: Iran Expecting Europe’s Practical Measures on JCPOA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif urged the European parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to adopt practical measures for saving the nuclear deal.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Tuesday, Zarif said, “The European Union has announced a series of commitments and we are waiting for the EU to carry out its practical measures (to save the JCPOA).”

On May 8, the US president pulled his country out of the JCPOA, which was achieved in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Following the US exit, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.

Elsewhere in his comments, Zarif said he will leave Iran for New York on September 23 to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

The 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 73) opens on September 18 and runs until September 30.

Iran and the remaining parties to the JCPOA are expected to hold talks on the sidelines of the event.
