Yemeni Troops Target Saudi-Led Convoy in Hudaydah, Kill Dozens

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemeni troops and their allied popular forces targeted a Saudi military convoy in the port city of Hudaydah, claiming the lives of scores of mercenaries in the western province.

Yemeni troops targeted six Saudi military vehicles in Hudaydah, leaving large groups of Saudi- and UAE-backed mercenaries dead and injured, a military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Saba news agency on Monday.

Backed by Saudi-led airstrikes, Emirati forces and militants loyal to the former Yemeni government launched the Hudaydah assault on June 13 despite warnings that it would compound the impoverished nation’s humanitarian crisis.

Humanitarian organizations have warned that the Hudaydah operation threatens to cut off essential supplies to millions of Yemeni people. More than 70 percent of Yemen's imports pass through Hudaydah's docks.

Yemen’s defenseless people have been under massive attacks by the coalition for more than three years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

The Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights announced in a statement on March 25 that the war had left 600,000 civilians dead and injured until then. The war and the accompanying blockade have also caused famine across Yemen.
