Iranian VP Urges Private Sector to Develop Maritime Industries

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri said a major development of the country’s maritime industries requires a serious national determination, adding that the country’s private sector should play a pivotal role in that industry.

Addressing the first meeting of the Supreme Council of Marine Industries on Wednesday, Jahangiri stated that President Rouhani’s administration pays special attention to maritime industries, saying, “The private sector should be the main axis of development of maritime industries.”

He also stressed that the administration will support the private sector and the companies involved in marine industries.

“Promotion of this industry requires a serious determination in the administration and all the executive organizations,” Jahangiri added.

In a separate development on October 29, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan attended the opening ceremony of the 15th Naval Industries Conference in Iran’s Persian Gulf Kish Island.

Dehqan had described that meeting as part of a broader effort aimed at shaping Iranian maritime engineering system.

He also added that the Supreme Council of Marine Industries is tasked with revising the existing naval laws in a bid to remove deficiencies, devising a comprehensive and strategic naval roadmap, and establishing Iranian naval engineering system.

He said Iran has 5,800 kilometers of water borders and has spent huge investments in naval industries.
