Iranian, Omani Diplomats Hold Talks in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Omani diplomat held a meeting with Iran’s foreign minister in Tehran for talks on a range of bilateral and regional issues.

Heading a diplomatic delegation, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman Mohammed bin Awadh Al Hassan met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Tuesday.

The two sides emphasized the need for closer political, economic and cultural cooperation between Tehran and Muscat, and discussed major regional developments.

The Omani delegation also attended the 6th session of Iran-Oman strategic consultation committee, which was held on Monday and Tuesday in Tehran.

The session, co-chaired by Al Hassan and Iranian foreign minister’s assistant, Mohammad Farzamand, revolved around the latest status of bilateral relations and regional issues.

The two sides also signed a document on the negotiations and agreements at the conclusion of the session.

The document entails procedures for promoting cooperation between Iran and Oman in various fields, as well as continued interaction between the authorities of the two neighbors.

Iran and Oman have developed strong political relations in recent years, with their top officials making regular reciprocal visits.

Oman’s king, Sultan Qaboos, played an important role in facilitating the early stages of the nuclear talks between Iran and world powers that led to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2015.
