Iran’s Defense Might Serving Regional Peace: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Deputy Defense Minister General Qassem Taqizadeh highlighted the country’s contributions to peace in the Middle East and said the Islamic Republic’s defense power has always served regional stability and peace.

Speaking at a meeting with Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs H. Wiranto in Jakarta on Friday evening, General Taqizadeh highlighted Iran’s peaceful approach toward regional nations.

“Iran’s defense power has always served the consolidation of peace and stability and continued security in the region,” the official said.

The Islamic Republic has never started a war against its neighbors in its contemporary history and always insisted on peaceful means to resolve regional problems, he added.

Wiranto, for his part, praised Tehran-Jakarta relations as age-old and featuring mutual respect and said the results of General Taqizadeh’s visit would definitely help boost bilateral ties and regional stability and security.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 8th Indonesian Industrial Defense Exhibition.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.

In late March, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underscored the need for boosting Iran’s defense capabilities, warning that enemies are making use of every tool available to undermine the Islamic Republic.

Ayatollah Khamenei said at the time that if the Islamic establishment seeks technology and negotiations but lacks defense might, it will have to buckle in the face of any weak country posing threats.
