Iran Condemns Fresh US Sanctions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the latest sanctions the US has imposed on the Central Bank of Iran officials for alleged involvement in a network providing oil to the Syrian government.

In a statement on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi denounced the fresh sanctions that the US Treasury Department has imposed on a number of Iranian and foreign individuals and companies, including on the Central Bank of Iran’s vice governor, on “bogus charges”.

“These futile, illogical and ineffective sanctions against natural and legal persons would definitely fail to achieve the results favored by those designing and implementing them, who will soon realize the futility of what they are planning sooner or later,” Qassemi added.

On November 20, the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated nine targets for alleged involvement in an international network through which it said Iran, working with Russian companies, provides millions of barrels of oil to the Syrian government.

The US Treasury Department has also accused Central Bank of Iran’s senior officials of playing a critical role in that arrangement, naming Rasoul Sajjad, CBI’s International Department Director, and Hossein Yaghoobi, CBI’s Vice Governor for International Affairs.
