Iran Arrests Key Suspects Behind Assassination of Zabol Prosecutor

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Members of a group who assassinated a local judicial official in the country’s southeastern city of Zabol earlier this month, were all apprehended by Iranian security forces.

On Wednesday, November 6, unknown assailants killed Mousa Nouri, prosecutor of Zabol, by spraying bullets on his car in the street.

Nouri and his driver were shot dead when they were driving to the city’s court at 8 am local time.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Public Relations stated on Monday that members of the assassination team, involved in the bloody incident, were arrested in a complicated intelligence operation.

Meanwhile, head of IRGC Public Relations Department General Ramezan Sharif has told tasnim that the initial investigations show that those arrested in connection with the killing of the local prosecutor did not belong to terrorist or anti-revolutionary groups.

"The inquiries suggest that the reason behind the assassination was related to smuggling or revenge-taking," said Sharif.

Also last week, Iranian Intelligence Minister Seyed Mahmoud Alawi had announced that his ministry was investigating the recent assassination of Zabol prosecutor, and added that the results of the investigation would be announced later.

Zabol is a small town in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan, close to the border with Afghanistan.
