Larijani: Iran, Indonesia Stands Quite Close on Int’l Issues
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian parliament speaker said on Wednesday that Iran and Indonesia’s stands on international issues and the interests of the Islamic world are quite close to each other.
“Indonesia is a great and influential country in the world and has always had friendly cooperation with Iran in economic, cultural and international fields,” said Ali Larijani, who met his visiting Indonesian counterpart Marzuki Alie on Tuesday.
“During the long talks we had yesterday and on other occasions, we have come to this realization that our perceptions of major international developments and the Muslims’ interests are quite close to each other,” said Larijani.
The Iranian parliament speaker also thanked the Indonesian parliament speaker and his accompanying delegation for their visit to the Islamic Republic and their Wednesday morning presence at parliament, expressing hope that his visit will serve the significant cause of greater proximity between the two important Asian countries.
Marzuki Alie told the Iranian lawmakers that Indonesian parliament supports Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
On the issue of Palestine, he said Indonesia and Iran share identical views regarding the issue.
The Indonesian lawmaker further condoled Iran over the blasts in front of Iranian embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, that killed some two dozen people, including Iran’s cultural attaché, and injured many others on Tuesday.
Earlier this year, two Iranian parliamentary delegations visited Indonesia to develop parliamentary interaction between Iran and the Southeast Asian country.
Iran-Indonesia trade reached $1.132 billion in 2012, with Iran's share of exports to Indonesia standing at $597 million. Iran imported liquefied propane, urea, gas turbines, bitumen, lead, and tea to Indonesia, while imported paper, home appliances, coal, and drilling equipment.
