Lebanese Parliament Speaker Due in Tehran on Sunday
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A Lebanese parliamentary delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, will arrive in Tehran on Sunday to confer with top Iranian officials on bilateral ties and regional developments.
Berry is invited for a four day visit of the Islamic Republic by his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani.
The Lebanese parliament speaker will meet President Hassan Rouhani, his host and counterpart Larijani and a number of Iranian lawmakers and officials.
The Lebanese parliamentarians are expected to discuss national, international and regional developments with the Iranian officials.
The visit comes less than a week after twin blasts outside the Iranian embassy in Beirut killed at least 23 people and injured some 150 others. Six Iranians , including the country's cultural attache, were among the dead.
In related news to Iran-Lebanon relations, the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a message to his Lebanese counterpart Michel Suleiman congratulated him on the occasion of the Lebanese National Day.
The Lebanese celebrate November 22 as their Independence Day, in remembrance of their liberation from the French Mandate which was exercised over Lebanese soil for over 23 years. France agreed to transfer power to the Lebanese government on January 1, 1944.
The League of Nations granted the mandate for Lebanon and Syria to France, which created the State of Greater Lebanon out of the provinces of Mount Lebanon, north Lebanon, south Lebanon and the Bekaa.
