Iran Asks for Closer Int’l Cooperation to Confront Terrorism
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran which has lost a great number of its citizens to acts of terrorism is a strong proponent of fight against the deadly menace, and has spearheaded calls for tougher action against terrorism across the region and the world, said an Iranian deputy interior minister on Saturday
Iran wants to have better bilateral cooperation with China in campaign against terrorism, organized crime, and narcotic drugs trafficking, said Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affaits Ali Abdollahi in a meeting Deputy Chinese foreign Minister for Security Affair Choi Ngu Hung.
He said that the two countries’ relations in economic, political, cultural, military, and security fields are at a satisfactory level, saying closer cooperation at the international level and concerted efforts can be a death blow to the scourge of terrorism.
Choi Ngu Hung, too, said that cooperation between Tehran and Beijing against terrorism is quite possible.
He said that an official member of the People’s Republic of China State Council will visit Iran soon and discuss the expansion of a comprehensive consultative mechanism against terrorism, including exchange of information and cooperation in the campaign against terrorism.
More than 17,000 Iranian have been killed in terrorist acts since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, most of them at the hands of Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), a Paris-based terror cult.
The MKO is considered as a terrorist group since it has been behind many cases of bombings and assassinations against the Iranian officials and people.
The group fled to Iraq in 1986, where it received the support of Iraq's executed dictator Saddam Hussein and set up its camp near the Iranian border.
The latest terrorist act targeted Iran's embassy in Beirut on Tuesday, in which at least 23 people, including Iran's cultural attache, were killed.
