2 Security Officials Killed in Pakistan Convoy Attack
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – At least two security personnel were killed and five others wounded on Sunday in a bomb attack on a convoy in Pakistan's northwestern tribal areas.
The attack came in the Mir Ali area of Miranshah, the main town in the North Waziristan tribal region, a hub of Taliban and al-Qaeda linked militants on the Afghan border.
"Two security officials were killed and five others wounded in the explosion caused by a planted bomb," a security official said, adding that a large military convoy was later due to pass by the area.
Militants threw the dead body of a kidnapped police official on the road in the same area earlier in the day. The official had been kidnapped from Bannu district a few days ago.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the killings, Voice of Russia reported.
The umbrella Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan faction and al Qaeda-linked militants have led a bloody campaign against the Pakistani state in recent years, carrying out hundreds of attacks on security forces and government targets, concentrated largely in the northwest.
