Russia Greets Syria Gov't Decision to Go to Geneva 2

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Russia welcomed the decision of Syria's government to dispatch a delegation to the January peace conference in Geneva, Switzerland, to negotiate a way out of the ongoing crisis with no pre-conditions.

The statement was made on Thursday on the heels of the meeting between Syrian ambassador in Moscow, Riyad Haddad, with Russia's deputy foreign minister Mikhail Bogdanov, the Voice of Russia reported.

The Assad administration said on November 27 it was ready to go to the negotiating table without any prerequisites.

The meeting between the Syrian ambassador and the Russian foreign policy official zeroed in on the preparations to the Geneva 2 conference, which is slated for January 22.

Meantime, the Syrian National Coalition opposition group said it will attend the Geneva 2 talks in January aimed at resolving the civil war.
