Iranian Football Coach Pleased with FIFA World Cup Draw

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Comments by Iran's coach Carlos Queiroz on Saturday showed he was pleased with the FIFA world cup draw, as he said the Iranian national football team could give Argentine side a headache in the games.

Queiroz said that he was glad just as his team had reached the final draw after a tortuous qualifying campaign which went down to the wire, and thus the present day status was a pleasant experience.

"For us, qualification was hell, so being in this group now is like heaven," said the former Manchester United assistant.

"For my players, it should be an honor to play against these rivals and it is important they go out and enjoy every minute of every match, eager to make it to the second round.

"Facing Argentina at the Maracana? Let's hope we can give Argentina a headache."

Iran will open their 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign on June 16 against Nigeria in Curitiba before traveling to Belo Horizonte to face Argentina at the Estadio Mineirao, Brazil’s second largest Stadium after the iconic Maracana, five days later.

Iran round off their Group F campaign in Salvador on June 25 against surprise qualifiers Bosnia-Hercegovina, who despite making their World Cup debut in Brazil are no strangers to the three-time Asian champions having played on five occasions since 2001.

Asian champions Japan drew Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire and Greece in Group C, while Korea Republic drew Russia, Belgium and Algeria in Group H. and Iran are bracketed with Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Nigeria in Group F.
