Navy Commander Set to Attend Int’l Maritime Security Symposium
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari left Tehran on Saturday for Indonesia where he is slated to attend a symposium on international maritime security.
Heading a high-ranking military delegation, the Iranian commander will be a special guest at the international symposium, which is planned to be held in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta from December 9 to 11.
The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has organized the event as part of efforts to develop its fleet into a world class force.
The symposium, entitled “The Reasonable Navy, Key Player of Maritime Security Enhancement”, will also see Rear Admiral Sayyari deliver a speech to the audience.
Nearly 350 participants from countries grouped in the Indian Oceans Naval Symposium (IONS) and Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS) will attend the three-day symposium, according to Antara News.
Sayyari is also expected to meet his peers from various countries, as well as a number of senior Indonesian military officials, to hold talks over the strategy of global cooperation on promotion of maritime vigilance.
“I have strong ambitions to turn the TNI AL into a world class navy, to put it on par with navies of developed countries,” Indonesian Naval Chief of Staff Admiral Marsetio said on December 5.
Therefore, to create a world class navy, he said, the TNI AL will give priority to building the character of its personnel and organization in a comprehensive way.
Marsetio also noted that the character of the Indonesian navy is excellent in terms of organization, operation and human resources.
As such, TNI AL will be able to achieve its vision -- creating a reliable, respected and world-class navy—the Indonesian commander added.
Admiral Marsetio will officially inaugurate the symposium, with Indonesia’s Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro as a keynote speaker.
