Senior MP Stresses Diplomacy to Resolve Syrian Crisis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Syrian crisis can be resolved only through diplomatic ways, Chairman of Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Monday in a meeting with Tunisian ambassador to Tehran.

“Unfortunately, the big world powers in collaboration with some regional countries have turned the Syrian crisis into a military confrontation (among the conflicting parties) in which many innocent people have lost their lives," Boroujerdi said in a meeting with Khalid Zeitouni.

He, however, added that supporters of crisis in Syria have realized their mistake after three years and are now looking for a political solution.

The prominent MP described the terrorist attacks in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Afghanistan as a "big problem for the whole region," and called for collective regional action against terrorism.

As regards Iran-Tunisia ties, Boroujerdi referred to the broad potentials for the expansion of relations between the two sides, arguing that the current level of interactions and mutual cooperation needs to be boosted to serve both nations’ interests.

The Tunisian ambassador, for his part, voiced his country's support for the expansion of bilateral relations, and stated that Iran’s advancement in scientific fields, including in peaceful nuclear program reassure Muslim nations.

He said broader consultations between the two countries’ officials, particularly at parliamentary level, would lead to ever more proximity of the two nations.
