Opposition Party: Bahraini Regime Seeking to End Freedom of Expression

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Al Khalifa regime is determined to completely prevent freedom of expression in Bahrain, the main opposition party, al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, said in a statement.

The regime of Al Khalifa has adopted measures to completely destroy the freedom of expression in Bahrian and has now tightening the siege on protesters through jailing them and preventing them from travelling abroad.

Al-Wefaq has also noted that a large portion of the oppressed Bahraini nation has now been imprisoned in Bahrain due to oppressive security measures adopted by Al Khalifa regime against civil liberties, local media reports said.

Referring to Manama’s decision to prohibit Sheikh Ali Salman, a senior opposition leader, from leaving the country, the statement said the decision showed that the regime has started new phase to suppress the nation and block all ways to find a political solution to end the crisis.

The statement came a few days after people in Bahrain took to the streets to voice their anger at the ruling Al Khalifa regime’s policies to curb religious freedom.

On Thursday, Bahraini demonstrators staged a fresh protest rally in the country’s northeastern island of Sitra, condemning attempts by the Manama regime to discourage people from attending religious ceremonies.

Meanwhile, anti-regime protesters held a demonstration in the village of Sanabis, situated in the suburbs of Manama, to express solidarity with female activists who have been imprisoned for participating in anti-regime protests.

Over the past few months, the Bahraini regime has intensified its heavy-handed crackdown on activists and peaceful demonstrators in the country.
