Commander: Enemies Unable to Assess Iran’s Military Capabilities
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A top military commander said Iran’s adversaries could never make a correct assessment of the country’s capabilities, something he said stems from the Iranian Armed Forces’ experience in employing diverse tactics during the 8-year-long Iraqi-imposed war on Iran.
“The enemies will never be able to estimate our operational and tactical capabilities,” Lieutenant Commander the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami underlined.
He made the remarks in cultural ceremony here in Tehran on Monday, making a reference to full-fledged war waged by Iraq against the country in the 1980s.
Iraq, under former dictator Saddam Hussein, invaded Iran on September 22, 1980, imposing a bitter eight-year war on its eastern neighbor.
The commander further noted that Iranian forces’ forte during the war was their ability to employ a variety of different tactics.
He said the Iranian forces’ creativity in the battlefield, along with their successful raids on the enemy during the war, was a factor much more important than utilization of new military equipment, which he said has made it "impossible" to assess Iran’s operational and tactical behaviors.
In relevant remarks on December 10, 2013, Brigadier General Salami had announced that Iran has succeeded to break the monopoly of big powers in modern technologies, saying the country owes its achievements to its self-confidence which in turn was inspired by the Iraqi-imposed war.
“We have been able to improve in all arenas thanks to the self-confidence we were given by the 8-year-long sacred defense,” he said at the time.
“In the field of science and modern technologies, we managed to break the (global) powers’ monopoly of technologies such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, aerospace and marine sciences,” the commander had underlined.
