UN Chief in Baghdad for Talks with Iraqi Leaders

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived here on Monday for talks with Iraqi top officials over range of regional issues, including the crisis in Syria and crisis in Iraq's Anbar province, an official television reported.

"UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrives in Baghdad on an official visit," the state-run Iraqiya channel said.

Ban is expected to meet with other top Iraqi officials to tackle the crisis in Iraq's western province of Anbar and Syria, the channel said.

Ali al-Mosawi, media advisor for Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, said in a statement issued on the website of on Maliki's office that the UN chief "will meet with Maliki to discuss the development in the region in particular the Syrian crisis."

The last visit for the UN chief to Iraq was on December 6, 2012, in which he held talks with the Iraqi leaders over political development in the region, including Iraq's relations with neighboring Kuwait, Xinhua reported.
