Iran Strongly Condemns Terrorist Bombing in Beirut

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran strongly condemned the Tuesday terrorist explosion in the Lebanese capital which claimed several lives and wounded dozens, and described the terrorist moves as “inhumane."

“The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the terrorist and inhume incident in Beirut which killed and wounded a number of innocent Lebanese citizens,” Marziyeh Afkham, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, said on Tuesday evening.

She also offered Iran's sympathy with the bereaved family members of the incident’s victims.

She took extremist groups responsible for the move, and stated, “Undoubtedly, this terrorist act and other similar moves by Takfiri (extremist) groups in Lebanon and the region are in line with the interests of the Zionist regime (of Israel), and are aimed at undermining Lebanon's national unity, stability and security."

She at the same time expressed certainty that the Lebanese nation and political leaders are very conscious about the plots hatched by the country’s enemies, and will not allow nsecurity prevail in their country.

A suspected suicide bomb attack killed at least four people and wounded another 31 in a southern suburb of Beirut Tuesday.

The 11 am explosion on Arid Street in Haret Hreik occurred just meters from the site of an explosion earlier in the month that was claimed by a radical rebel Syrian group.

The blast sent plumes of smoke into the Beirut skyline. Smoke and fire from at least one burning car also engulfed a building in the area.
