Iranian Commander Deplores US War Rhetoric

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A senior Iranian military commander dismissed Washington’s repeated rhetoric of viability of military option against Iran as “foolish”, and warned the US about Tehran's crushing response to possible military aggression.

“The US should be aware that in case of (making) any mistake, its entire illegitimate interests in the region will be razed to the ground,” Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri told the Tasnim News Agency.

The commander made the remarks in response to earlier comments by the US secretary of state who claimed on Thursday that Washington was prepared to take military action against Tehran if it tries to continue enriching uranium beyond the levels stipulated in the Geneva nuclear deal.

“If they do that, then the military option that is available to the United States is ready and prepared to do what it would have to do,” John Kerry told Al Arabiya.

This comes after Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) on November 24, 2013, signed a six-month deal on Tehran’s nuclear program in the Swiss city of Geneva after several rounds of tight negotiations.

Based on the interim deal, the world powers agreed to suspend some non-essential sanctions and to impose no new nuclear-related bans in return for Tehran's decision to suspend its 20% enrichment for a period of six months.

Elsewhere in the interview, Jazayeri made it clear that the US itself is well aware that the talk of military action against Iran is a worn-out claim, adding that American officials “had better not repeat such foolish remarks.”

He further stressed that Iran’s reaction to any military move will go beyond the region, warning that US’s new destiny, in case of any military skirmish, will be definitely defined by Iran.
