MP Reiterates Iran's Enrichment Rights

Abbas Ali Mansouri Arani, a member of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, told the Tasnim News Agency that the Geneva nuclear deal gives Iran the right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.

"Therefore" he said “we are committed to the Geneva agreement and the (other) signatories are also committed to the deal and will implement it."

No power will be allowed to stop the country’s centrifuges from spinning, he reiterated.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) on November 24, 2013, signed a six-month deal on Tehran’s nuclear program in the Swiss city of Geneva after several rounds of tight negotiations.

Based on the interim deal, the world powers agreed to suspend some non-essential sanctions and to impose no new nuclear-related bans in return for Tehran's decision to suspend its 20% enrichment for a period of six months.

Mansouri Arani further deplored the recent threatening remarks by the US Secretary of State John Kerry and said such remarks are for domestic consumption only and that they seem to have been made under pressure. 

Speaking to Al-Arabiya on Thursday in Davos, Switzerland, Kerry said that if Iran resumes uranium enrichment beyond the five-percent level, “then the military option that is available to the United States is ready and prepared to do what it would have to do.”

In reply, a senior Iranian military commander on Saturday dismissed Washington’s repeated rhetoric of viability of military option against Iran as “foolish”, and warned the US about Tehran's crushing response to possible military aggression.

“The US should be aware that in case of (making) any mistake, its entire illegitimate interests in the region will be razed to the ground,” Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri said.
