Bodies of 26 Iranian Soldiers Killed in Iraqi Imposed War to Return Home

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Bodies of 26 Iranian soldiers killed during the eight-year Iraqi imposed war on Iran in the 1980s (known in Iran as the Sacred Defense) will be repatriated on Monday, an Iranian official said.

Brigadier General Seyed Mohammad Baqerzadeh, commander of the missing in action (MIA) search committee of Iran's Armed Forces General Staff, told the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday that the bodies will return home in the border city of Shalamcheh on January 27.

According to the commander, those Iranian soldiers have been martyred in Iraq’s Majnoon Island and the Faw Peninsula, at the farthest south-eastern end of the Arab country.

Iraq, under former dictator Saddam Hussein, invaded Iran on September 22, 1980, imposing a bitter eight-year war on its eastern neighbor.
