Iran Has Nothing to Hide over Peaceful Nuclear Program: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the nuclear deal it has signed with the world powers, insisting that Tehran has nothing to hide regarding its peaceful nuclear program.

In a Sunday meeting with former French Foreign Minister Herve de Charette here in Tehran, Takht Ravanchi, who is also a member of Iran's team of negotiation, underlined the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, saying the country’s entire nuclear activities have been "transparent and under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)."

The Iranian deputy foreign minister once again emphasized Tehran’s right to enrich uranium as a signatory to the NPT.

De Charette, for his part, expressed satisfaction with the landmark nuclear deal signed between Iran and Group 5+1 (the US, Britain, France, Russia and China plus Germany), and noted that Tehran and Paris should take advantage of the new atmosphere to enhance their bilateral relations.

Iran and Group 5+1 on November 24 signed a six-month deal on Tehran’s nuclear program based on which the world powers agreed to suspend some non-essential sanctions and to impose no new nuclear-related bans in return for Tehran's decision to freeze parts of its nuclear activities and to allow more inspection of its nuclear facilities.

Earlier on January 17, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had also hailed the country’s success in hammering out a breakthrough nuclear deal with the major world powers, saying the agreement was a contributing factor in nullifying the efforts to foment Iranophobia.

“One of the most important results of the Geneva nuclear deal is that the world’s public opinion realized that the Islamic Republic of Iran and our Muslim people have nothing to hide in the field of the nuclear technology,” he has stated.
