Iran's FM, Mexican Envoy Stress Further Expansion of Relations
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the new Mexican ambassador to Tehran, Olisus Kanjula Gutiress, explored avenues for further expanding bilateral relations between Tehran and Mexico City.
During the meeting in Tehran on Tuesday evening, Zarif praised the Mexican envoy for the diplomatic dynamism he has adopted at the beginning of his tenure in Tehran.
He expressed the hope that the recent visits to Iran by numerous Mexican delegations would result in further expansion of bilateral relations.
Zarif described the ties between Iran and Mexico as "good and age-old" and said the two sides enjoy grounds for developing mutual cooperation, especially in economic, trade, and energy fields.
The Mexican ambassador submitted a copy of his credentials to the Iranian top diplomat, and said the Mexican officials are determined to expand ties with Iran more than ever before.
Gutiress also welcomed Iran’s proactive foreign diplomacy in the regional and international fields, emphasizing that he would used his entire capabilities for expanding Tehran-Mexico City relations.
On January 21, the heads of the Iranian and Mexican parliaments’ national security commissions signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), in which they have stressed significance of parliamentary ties.
The MoU was signed by Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission and Gabriela Cuevas, the chairwoman of Mexican Senate’s Foreign Policy Commission.
Based on the MoU, the two sides agreed to hold regular meetings each year to explore avenues for further boosting bilateral parliamentary ties, and further expansion of economic, political, cultural, scientific and educational interaction.
