Zarif Renews Iran's Determination to Expand Ties with Lebanon

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian foreign minister said in a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart that Tehran is quite determined for the further expansion of comprehensive relations with Beirut.

During the meeting held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Mohammad Javad Zarif briefed the Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on the outcomes of his recent visit to Tehran.

The two foreign ministers also reviewed the latest status of bilateral relations and the most important regional developments.

Zarif also briefed Mikati on the latest status of the Iran-world powers nuclear negotiations, and said the newly emerged conditions can be employed for further strengthening of mutual economic ties.

During the meeting also attended by Lebanese minister of economy, Prime Minister Mikati voiced Beirut’s full support for progress in the process of talks between Iran and P5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany), and stated that the economic opportunity created by the deal can be key factor for promoting the two countries' interests.

The regional developments, particularly the Syrian crisis and the Lebanese political developments were among the main topics discussed by the two officials.

The two countries enjoy very friendly relations and have always been expanding the dimensions of their comprehensive relations and cooperation in the recent years.

Tehran and Beirut have also been exchanging several delegations of high-ranking officials throughout the past three decades.
