Belgium FM to Visit Iran in Coming Weeks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - An informed source in Iran’s ministry of foreign affairs confirmed that Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders will visit Tehran in the coming weeks.

The source told the Tasnim News Agency that Reynders will travel to Tehran for talks with high-ranking Iranian officials.

He said the Belgian minister’s trip, slated for late February, will be one in series of visits to Tehran by EU countries’ foreign ministers.

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt arrived in Iran on Monday, beginning a three-day visit.

Bildt’s press officer Erik Zsiga, referring to the Geneva agreement between Iran and the world powers, has described the visit as “an opportunity for us to weigh in so that the temporary deal becomes permanent”.

Iran and the six powers on November 24, 2013, signed a six-month deal on Tehran’s nuclear program in Geneva after several rounds of tight negotiations.

Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski is another European foreign minister planning to hold talks with the Iranian officials in Tehran. He is scheduled to visit Iran from February 28 to March 2.

Since the election of President Hassan Rouhani last June and particularly since Iran and world powers reached a nuclear deal, European countries have shown willingness to improve relations with Iran.
