Speaker Calls on All Muslim Nations to Cooperate against Extremism
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, who is in Tunisia for an official visit, stressed the need for all Muslim countries to work together against Takfiri (extremist) terrorists.
Larijani made the remark on Friday in a meeting with the speaker of Tunisia’s National Constituent Assembly Mustapha Ben Jaafar.
He referred to the problems facing the Muslim world, the spread of extremist terrorism in the region in particular, and called on Muslim states to cooperate in confronting the "ominous phenomenon."
Takfiris are extremists that follow a deviated interpretation of Islam often promoted by the Saudi-based Wahhabi sect. Backed by some foreign states, they have been committing atrocious acts of terrorism in countries like Syria, Iraq and Lebanon.
Elsewhere, Larijani, who heads a legislative delegation to Tunis to take part in a ceremony celebrating the adoption of the North African country’s first post-revolution constitution, described the adoption of the constitution with the participation of different political factions as a unique event.
He further called for the expansion of economic ties between Iran and Tunisia.
The Iranian parliament speaker also invited Ben Jaafar to participate in the 9th meeting of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU), slated to be held in Tehran from February 14 to 19.
Ben Jaafar, for his part, hailed Larijani’s visit to Tunis.
He also said that the adoption of the constitution was a step forward on the path toward the establishment of the rule of law and a better future for the people of Tunisia.
