Blast Kills 1, Wounds 8 in Afghan Town of Jalalabad

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A powerful blast rocked Jalalabad city in east Afghanistan leaving at least one person dead and injuring eight others on Saturday, a local official said.

"The blast took place near a school in Jalalabad city at around 01:00 pm local time today killing one civilian and injuring eight others," the official told Xinhua but declined to be identified, saying authorized officials would brief the media after completion of investigation.

Nevertheless, he said that all the victims are civilians including school children.

Meantime, spokesman for police in Jalalabad city, Hazrat Hussain Mashrigwal confirmed the blast and in talks with Xinhua said that "explosive device was planted near a girl school."

However, he didn't say if there were any casualties, saying investigation has been initiated into the case.
