Grounds Ready for Expanding Iran-Mexico Ties: Rouhani
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined Tehran’s resolve to bolster its relations with the Latin American nations, noting that the ground is currently prepared for the enhancement of bilateral relations between Iran and Mexico.
“Today, more suitable conditions have been created for the expansion of relations and economic, cultural and international cooperation between the two countries,” President Rouhani said in a meeting with Mexico’s new ambassador to Iran, Olisus Kanjula Gutiress, here in Tehran on Monday.
Rouhani also praised the developing interactions between Iran and the Latin American countries following the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, and noted that such ties are in line with the mutual interests of the sides.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has firm determination to enhance the political, economic and cultural ties between Iran and Mexico,” the president added.
Gutiress, for his part, submitted his credentials to the Iranian president, and vowed to put effort into strengthening Tehran-Mexico City relations during his tenure in Iran.
Pointing to a Mexican parliamentary delegation’s recent visit to Iran, he added that an economic team from the Latin American country is also planned to pay a visit to Tehran in future.
On January 21, the heads of the Iranian and Mexican parliaments’ national security commissions signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), in which they have stressed significance of parliamentary ties.
The MoU was signed by Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission and Gabriela Cuevas, the chairwoman of Mexican Senate’s Foreign Policy Commission.
Based on the MoU, the two sides agreed to hold regular meetings each year to explore avenues for further boosting bilateral parliamentary ties, and further expansion of economic, political, cultural, scientific and educational interaction.
