IRGC Commander Downplays US War Rhetoric against Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) once again played down the US “ludicrous talk” of military action as a viable option against Iran, arguing that even the American military commanders are well aware that such an option would not work anymore.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the “Death to U.S.A. Grand Prize” here in Tehran on Monday evening, Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari lashed out at Washington for its repeated rhetoric of taking military action against Iran, and explained that the US claim that military option is still on the table is just to make the White House’s policies more palatable to the US nation.

The commander said Iran has already advised the US officials to consult with the American elites before talking about any military action, and added, “We have no doubt, according to the obtained reports, the American military forces and generals have also advised their political officials of the reality that such an option (viability of military action) will be of no avail in dealing with Iran.”

Major General Jafari further emphasized that what the Iranian military and security commanders say about the country’s military capability "is not a bluff at all," and reiterated that the Islamic Republic’s long experience of dealing with defensive and security issues leads to the conclusion that “Americans really cannot do a damn thing.”

Earlier on January 9, the IRGC issued a statement on the eve of the 35th anniversary of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, and specifically referred to the recent “disgraceful, threatening and insolent” remarks by US officials about the military option (against Iran) being on the table.

It also said the country’s diplomatic apparatus would offer an “unequivocal, clear and decisive” response to such absurd remarks.

In recent weeks, senior American officials, including US Secretary of State John Kerry, have time and again repeated the rhetoric of military option still being on the table.

Iran’s high-ranking officials have slammed the tone and described threatening the Iranian nation with the military option as a grave mistake.
