Austrian Airlines To Resume Tehran-Vienna Flights

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Austrian Airlines will resume direct flights between Tehran and Vienna after agreements made during talks between the Austrian company and the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization, an Iranian official announced on Saturday.

Direct flights between Iran and Austria which were suspended about a year ago will be resumed on March 12, Deputy Head of Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) for Aviation and International Affairs Mohammad Khodakarami said Saturday.

The reason for the year-long suspension of Iran-Austria direct flight was the Austrian company's problem in the financial income, he said.

“Based on the negotiations held between the CAO and the Austrian Airlines, it is agreed that the company conduct five regular flights to Tehran and Vienna each week,” he said.

On January 21 it was announced that Iranian and Afghan officials plan to explore avenues for the further expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the field of air transportation.

Khodakarami said at the time that the Iranian and Afghan aviation officials are scheduled to meet in the near future to study ways to increase mutual cooperation in air transportation field.

The meeting will take place in line with an agreement signed in 2003 by the two countries' aviation officials and to meet airlines’ demands for increased flights between the two countries’ cities, especially Iran’s holy Mashhad City, he added.

He said there are currently 15 regular weekly flights between the two countries, whose number will reach 36 after the agreement between the two sides.
