Pakistani Parliament Pursuing Plans to Fight Terrorism: Official
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan said his country is a victim of terrorism due to its vast borders, noting that parliamentary efforts in the populous Muslim country are in progress to devise plans against terrorist activities.
“Pakistan has vast borders which always come under the terrorists’ invasion. We in the Pakistani parliament are pursuing plans to fight against terrorism,” Nayyar Hussain Bokhari told Tasnim on Tuesday.
He also described Pakistan as the pioneer of the battle against terrorism, and said the IIPU meeting could succeed in introducing initiatives for counter-terrorism all over the world, particularly across the Islamic countries.
His remarks came after Iran conveyed its protest to the Pakistani government over the abduction and transferring of 5 Iranian border guards to Pakistan by a terrorist group.
On February 6, five Iranian border guards were abducted in Jakigour region in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan Province and taken to the Pakistani territory.
Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.
The two countries’ border security officers are said to have begun their search for the guards after the incident.
No armed conflict is reported to have occurred between the Iranian border guards and the assailants.
Jaish-ul-Adl, which is widely believed to be a Saudi-backed ultraconservative Salafi group, has posted photos of the abductees on twitter.
The same group had killed 14 Iranian border guards and wounded three others in the city of Saravan in Sistan and Baluchestan Province last October.
In February 2013, Iran and Pakistan signed a security agreement which requires both sides to take strict measures to combat terrorism, human and drug trafficking.
