Iranian MP Says World Powers Have Admitted Defeat
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Vice-Speaker of the Iranian parliament on Thursday said the world powers have admitted defeat in their attempts to stop Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
“Yesterday, they (westerners) sent (Iran’s) nuclear dossier to the (UN) Security Council and said Iran’s 194 centrifuges and nuclear sites must be closed. But today they have admitted defeat and negotiate with the Islamic Republic,” Mohammad Hassan Abutorabifard said, addressing the families of Air Force martyrs here in Tehran.
He referred to the country’s progress in peaceful nuclear technology and said some 19000 second-and- third-generation centrifuges are now spinning in the country and the Arak heavy-water reactor is now 85% complete.
The top parliamentarian added that Iran has emerged politically powerful in the region and in the international arena, the best proof of which is the nuclear negotiations between Tehran and the world powers.
Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) wrapped up their latest round of negotiations in the Austrian capital of Vienna on February 20.
The next round of talks between the two sides, aimed at reaching a comprehensive deal on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program, will be held from March 17 to 20 in Vienna.
On November 24, 2013, Iran and the sextet of world powers signed a six-month deal on Tehran’s nuclear program in the Swiss city of Geneva.
Based on the interim deal (the Joint Plan of Action), the world powers agreed to suspend some non-essential sanctions and to impose no new nuclear-related bans.
