Iran, World Powers Continue Expert-Level Talks for 2nd Day

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Representatives from Iran and the six world powers on Thursday began the second day of expert-level talks over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

Reza Najafi, a member of the Iranian experts team, said the second day of negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, the US, Britain, China, France and Germany) started in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Thursday morning and will continue in the afternoon.

In their seven-hour talks on Wednesday, the two sides discussed issues like uranium enrichment, Arak heavy-water research reactor and the world powers’ peaceful nuclear cooperation with Iran.

According to Abbas Araqchi, a senior Iranian nuclear negotiator, Iran’s team of experts present in the ongoing negotiation is headed by Foreign Ministry’s Director General for the Political and International Affairs Hamid Baeidinejad.

This round of  talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, the US, Britain, China, France and Germany) at the  experts level are being held on the sidelines of a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors.

It comes after Iran and the G5+1 (also known as P5+1 or E3+3) wrapped up their latest nuclear talks in the Austrian capital on February 20.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is also Iran’s top negotiator in the talks, said at the time that both sides came up with a framework for comprehensive negotiations to reach a final agreement.

In the meantime, the two sides are gearing up for a meeting of political directors on March 17.

The whole talks are aimed at resolving the West’s decade-long standoff over Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.
