Iran’s FM Sees No Limits for Tehran-Dushanbe Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Islamic Republic is prepared to strengthen brotherly bonds with Tajikistan, Iranian foreign minister stressed, adding that Tehran and Dushanbe can bolster relations without any limitation.

“There is no ceiling on the expansion of cooperation between the two countries,” Mohammad Javad Zarif said of the bilateral ties between Iran and Tajikistan.

He made the comments in a meeting with his Tajik counterpart Sirojidin Aslov, here in Tehran on Saturday evening.

The get-together focused on the bilateral ties between Tehran and Dushanbe, as well as the latest developments in Central Asian region and Afghanistan.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif made a reference to the numerous cultural commonalities between Iran and Tajikistan, and expressed Tehran’s willingness to forge “firm and brotherly” relationship with the Tajik nation and government.

Aslov, for his part, conveyed Tajik President Emomali Rahmon’s warm greetings to the Iranians, and described the reciprocal visits by the two countries’ high-ranking delegations as a sign of their determination to bolster all-out relations.

He also congratulated Iran on its diplomatic achievements in recent months, specially the landmark deal it struck with the six major world powers on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

On November 24, 2013, Tehran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) signed a six-month deal on Iran’s nuclear case in Geneva after several rounds of tight negotiations.

Based on the interim deal (the Joint Plan of Action), the world powers agreed to suspend some non-essential sanctions and to impose no new nuclear-related bans in return for Tehran's decision to suspend its 20% enrichment for a period of six months.

The two sides are scheduled to hold a fresh round of talks on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program in Vienna as of Monday.
