Iran Sweeps Australia Aside in AFC Futsal Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran defeated Australia 8-1 in its last Group B match in the AFC Futsal Championship.

On Sunday, the Iranian futsal team beat Australia 8-1 at the Phu Tho Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and advanced to the next stage with nine points.

Hossein Tayebi (three goals), Mohammad Taheri (two goals), Alireza Vafaei, Vahid Shafiei, and Ahmad Esmaeilpour scored for Iran in the match.

Iran has already defeated Indonesia 5-1 and China 12-0 in the competition.

Australia also qualified for the next stage with six points.

The most decorated team in Asia will play Group A runner-up on Wednesday.

The AFC Futsal Championship is the main national futsal competition of the Asian Football Confederation nations. It was first held in 1999 and has been played annually. Iran has been dominant, winning 10 out of the 12 editions of the competition played so far, and finishing 3rd in two others.
