Tehran Urges Expansion of Trade Ties with Islamabad
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayyebnia emphasized the need for promoting economic ties between Tehran and Islamabad.
In a meeting with Pakistani Minister of Finance Mohammad Ishaq Dar in Tehran on Monday, Tayyebnia called for the removal of the obstacles hindering expansion of economic ties between the two countries.
The Iranian minister also touched upon the determination of the two countries’ officials to expand trade relations.
The Pakistani minister, for his part, underlined Islamabad’s willingness to increase the volume of economic activities with Tehran.
During the meeting, Mohammad Ishaq Dar also proposed that the issues relating to the previous agreements between Tehran and Islamabad, which have not been implemented yet, be discussed in an early meeting of the two countries’ joint commission.
Ishaq Dar is a member of a delegation headed by Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif which has arrived in Iran on Sunday for a two-day official visit.
During the first day of the Pakistani delegation’s visit to Iran, nine memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed as part of efforts to strengthen ties between the two neighboring Muslim countries.
According to the documents, Tehran and Islamabad agreed to make joint efforts in various fields, including measures to counter money laundering and foreign-sponsored terrorism.
