Iran’s Air Defense Monitoring Every Move

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Deputy Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base underlined that the country’s air defense closely monitors all moves.

General Ali Reza Sabahi-Fard on Monday said it is the responsibility of the Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base to safeguard and protect Iran’s airspace.

He also highlighted the efforts in the air defense and the entire Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran to indigenize defense equipment and described the endeavors as highly successful.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the commander said Iran is viewed as an influential country both regionally and globally, adding that the country’s Armed Forces have become a good role model in the region and the world.

Back in April, Lieutenant Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base for Executive Affairs General Shahrokh Shahram announced that the Iranian military technicians have successfully mounted new types of missiles on the air defense systems that used to launch only a specific type of missiles.

He explained that researchers at the Base, in cooperation with the Defense Ministry’s Aerospace Industries Organization, could equip the “Mersad” missile defense system with the home-made Sayyad 2 (Hunter 2) missiles.

General Shahrokh noted that the Mersad system could already launch the ‘Shalamcheh’ missiles alone, but the Sayyad 2 missiles have now enhanced the system’s capabilities.

Moreover, the commander added, the military experts have been able to equip the mobile version of S-200 air defense system with the upgraded Sayyad 3 missiles.

Getting advantage of the Sayyad 3 missiles, the S-200 can hit the targets with medium altitude, Shahrokh added.

Iran has repeatedly stated that its military might is defensive in nature and poses no threat to other countries.
