Spokesperson Denies Rumors of Failed Iran-US Talks in Vienna
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – US State Department Spokeswoman Marie Harf quashed rumors about the failure of bilateral talks between the Iranian and American delegations as part of the ongoing nuclear negotiations in the Austrian capital of Vienna.
In a message posted on her Twitter page on Friday, Harf dismissed as “totally and completely untrue” the news about failure of the bilateral talks between the Iranian and US nuclear negotiators.
She made the comments in response to a Twitter message posted by Al Arabiya, which quoted a US official as saying that the “bilateral talks between Iran and United States have failed.”
Elsewhere in her post, Marie Harf made clear that the Iranian and US delegations “met bilaterally for three hours this morning” in Vienna, adding that they had “a serious and straightforward discussion.”
Senior diplomats representing Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) have launched a decisive phase of diplomacy since Wednesday to draft a lasting accord, meant to end years of Western standoff over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.
The talks resumed for the third day this morning with separate bilateral meetings between the Iranian team of nuclear negotiators and the European members of the Group 5+1 (also known as the P5+1 or E3+3).
The Iranian diplomats also held a bilateral meeting with the US delegation this morning.
