Iran, Qatar Hold 2nd Session of Joint Political Committee

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian and Qatari deputy foreign ministers held the second meeting of the two countries’ joint political committee in the Qatari capital of Doha on Wednesday.

During the meeting Hossein Amir Abdollahian and hi s Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi discussed a range of issues of mutual interest.

Expansion of bilateral and regional ties between Tehran and Doha was among the topics touched upon during the meeting.

“Holding the second meeting (of joint political committee) at the designated time signifies the seriousness on both sides to enhance relations at the bilateral and regional levels,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Amir Abdollahian stated.

The Qatari deputy foreign minister, for his part, expressed satisfaction with the implementation of major agreements made in the previous meetings between the two sides and emphasized his country’s seriousness in promoting mutual cooperation with the Islamic Republic in all areas.

The Iranian diplomat made a regional tour aimed at expanding Tehran’s ties with the countries in the region.

Earlier on Tuesday, Amir Abdollahian and Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Abu Bakr Abdullah al-Qirbi had held talks on the latest regional developments as well as bilateral relations in all spheres.

The visiting Iranian official pointed to Tehran-Sana’a ties, and described the bilateral relations as deep-rooted, age-old and cultural.
