Iran Capable of Targeting Enemy’s Vital Interests: Top IRGC Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Friday highlighted the Islamic Republic’s military power and capability to confront enemies' possible move.

“We are capable of targeting the enemy’s vital interests all over the place in case it has ill intentions,” IRGC Deputy Commander Brigadier General Hossein Salami said.

He underlined that wherever it is, the enemy is monitored by Iran and remains within the range of Iran’s deterrent power.

“Our missiles are in full supply, our air defense is capable of shooting down enemy aircraft at any altitude, (and) our drones can detect the enemy from thousands of kilometers away,” he stated.

The senior commander reiterated that the enemy knows Iran is powerful and is not bluffing.

The remarks came after US President Barack Obama once again hinted at the possibility of a military option on Iran.

“...we reserve all options to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon," Obama said Wednesday at the US Military Academy at West Point West Point.

While negotiations between Iran and the sextet of world powers have gained a momentum in the past few months, Obama and other US administration officials have kept on insisting that the military option is still on the table to “prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons”.

The Islamic Republic strongly rejects the allegations that it is seeking to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran says it needs the nuclear program for peaceful purposes, including generating electricity and producing radio-isotopes for medical purposes.
