Iranian FM: Kuwaiti Emir’s Visit to Open New Chapter in Relations
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the upcoming visit by Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah to Tehran would open a new chapter in relations between the two countries.
The trip would be a milestone in bilateral ties, Zarif said in a Friday meeting with Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah in Algeria on the sidelines of the 17th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement.
There is neither reason for dispute, nor obstacle in the way of promoting good and brotherly relations between neighboring and Muslim countries in the region, he underscored.
The Iranian diplomat also touched upon the challenges facing regional countries, especially the spread of violence and extremism, and expressed confidence that the problems will be resolved through cooperation and consultation as well as "regional leaders’ tact and wisdom."
The Kuwaiti foreign minister, for his part, emphasized the significance of Iran’s role in resolving regional problems, and said expansion of ties between Iran and Kuwait not only serves the interests of the two countries, but also benefits all regional countries.
The Kuwaiti monarch will head a high-ranking delegation to Tehran on June 1 at the invitation of Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani.
Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah’s trip to the Islamic Republic will be his first since he became the ruler of Kuwait in 2006.
