Politician: US Lacks Credibility to Comment on Syria Election

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary-general of the Syrian Communist Party said the US has no credibility to verify the fairness of the upcoming presidential election in Syria.

“Who has given the US a mandate to dismiss the legitimacy of the presidential election in Syria and verify other  polls? Such US behavior is double-standard,” Hunain al-Namar told the Tasnim News Agency.

“The Syrian nation deems as hostile the stances adopted by the Westerners and some of the Persian Gulf state towards the (presidential) election in their country,” Namar added.

The party leader explained that those specific Western and Arab states are trying to obstruct the voting process in Syria saying the ill-wishers will fail to carry out their plots.

He made clear that the Syrian people all over the country will go to the polls on June 3 to “exercise their right to vote.”

Syria’s presidential election is slated for June 3 with three candidates running for president, namely incumbent president Bashar al-Assad, Maher Abdel Hafiz Hajjar and Hassan Abdullah al-Nuri.

Meanwhile, Syria has invited Iran to monitor the upcoming election in the Arab country. Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on May 25 that a group of Iranian parliamentarians will go to Syria to oversee the votes.
