TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Luxembourg’s foreign minister will arrive in Tehran on Sunday to discuss a range of issues with the Iranian officials.

Jean Asselborn is expected to hold meetings with President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minster Mohammad Javad Zarif during his stay in Tehran.

Speaking to reporters before his visit to Iran, Asselborn said he is going to have “an open discussion” with the Iranian officials on a range of issues including Palestine, the Syrian crisis and Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

The European diplomat also underlined that it is “crucial to maintain strong relations” with the Islamic Republic, since the country exerts a “huge” influence in the Middle East region and beyond.

This is Jean Asselborn first visit to Iran as Luxembourg’s foreign minister.

In October 2012, Luxembourg was elected to a United Nations Security Council temporary seat, one of the two reserved for members of the regional group of Western European and Others Group (WEOG).
