Omani Naval Fleet Docks at Iran’s Southern Port
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Omani fleet of warships docked in Iran's southern port of Bandar Abbas on Monday morning, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari announced.
“An Omani Naval fleet docked at the Bandar Abbas at 10:00 am on Monday with the aim of promoting (mutual) cooperation and exchanging information and knowledge,” Sayyari told reporters during a press conference.
Iran and Oman have so far held several naval relief and rescue drills aimed at enhancing readiness for providing relief services and rescue operations and improving the level of regional cooperation and exchanging experience.
In recent years, Iran’s naval forces have increased their presence in international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and oil tankers.
In line with international efforts to combat piracy, the Iranian Navy has also been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008 to safeguard the vessels involved in maritime trade, especially the ships and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran.
